Best Mobile Provider Switching Deals in Australia

Changing mobile providers can be a good way to cut your mobile costs, especially when a provider has a new customer or port-in offer.
But don't let a cheap first month make the decision for you. A low introductory price does not always mean the plan will be cheaper in the long run.
Before you switch, check whether you can bring your existing number, how long the discount lasts, what you will pay afterwards and how often the plan renews. It is also worth checking the data allowance, network and activation requirements.
Mobile offers can change, so check the provider's website and Critical Information Summary (CIS) before signing up.
Which mobile providers offer switching deals in Australia?
There are plenty of mobile promotions available, but not all of them are aimed at people switching from another provider.
Some offers are specifically for customers porting an existing number. Others are available to new customers or people taking out an additional service.
That difference matters. You may be moving from another provider but still not qualify for a particular promotion.
As of 11 September 2026, Yomojo has an offer for eligible customers bringing an existing number to the Starter plan. The first 30 days cost $1, followed by 50% off for Months 2 to 6. Activation is required within 45 days, and the offer is listed until 30 September 2026.
Other providers also have promotions, but their prices, eligibility rules and renewal periods can vary.

What makes a good switching deal?
A good switching deal should still offer value after the discount finishes.
I have found that a good switching deal should consider these points:
Eligibility: Can you bring your number?
First payment: What will you pay when you sign up?
Promotion length: How long does the discount last?
Ongoing price: What will you pay once the offer ends?
Renewal period: Does the plan renew every 28 days, 30 days or monthly?
Data: Is there enough data for how you use your phone?
Network: Does the network suit the places where you use your phone?
Activation: How long do you have to activate the service?
Conditions: Do you need auto-renewal, a promo code or a particular payment method?
Total cost: What will the plan cost over six and twelve months?
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC)recommends checking the CIS before choosing a service. The CIS provides information, about the plan, including inclusions, contract details and other charges.
Port-in deals vs new customer deals
One of the first things to check is whether the offer actually allows you to switch your existing number.
A port-in deal is designed for customers bringing their current mobile number from another provider.
A new customer or new service offer may have different rules. It might include some people switching providers, but that depends on the provider's terms.
For Yomojo's current Starter promotion, you need to bring an existing number to qualify.
If you want to keep your number, do not cancel your current service before the port is complete. ACMA says the number needs to remain active for the port to go through.
Compare the cost over six and twelve months
Once you know the promotional price and renewal period, adding up the payments gives you a better idea of the real cost.
For six months, add the first six renewal payments together.
For the current Yomojo Starter port-in offer:
$1 + ($12.45 × 5) = $63.25
If the standard $24.90 price remains the same from Month 7, the first twelve months would be:
$63.25 + ($24.90 × 6) = $212.65
This does not automatically make it the best plan for everyone. Your data use, network coverage and other inclusions still matter.
You can use the same approach when comparing other providers.
For 28-day plans, remember that you may have more than 12 renewals in a year. Simply taking a displayed monthly-looking price and multiplying it by 12 may not show the full annual cost.
How to switch your mobile number safely
If you want to keep your existing mobile number, you can usually transfer it to your new provider. This is known as porting.
Before you start:
Make sure your current number is active.
Check that the new provider accepts port-ins.
Confirm that you meet the promotion's eligibility rules.
Read the offer terms and CIS.
Check whether your current provider has any charges that may apply.
Keep your current service active while the port is being processed.
The new provider normally starts the transfer. Cancelling your old service first can cause problems because a disconnected number cannot be ported.
You can also read Yomojo's number porting guide before switching.
How long does a port take?
There can be a short interruption while your number moves between providers.
ACMA guidance says mobile ports are subject to industry timeframes, with most mobile ports expected to be completed within a few hours.
If your new service is not working after the port, contact your new provider for help.
Check the offer's conditions
The headline price is only one part of a mobile promotion. The terms can affect whether you qualify and how much you pay overtime.
Before ordering, check for: |
|---|
Activation deadline Some offers require you to activate within a certain number of days. |
Eligible customers A deal might be limited to new customers, port-ins or new services. |
Selected plans The discount may only apply to certain plans. |
Auto-renewal Some promotions require auto-renewal to remain active. |
Promo codes You may need to enter a code during sign-up. |
Existing customers Some deals exclude customers who already have a service with the provider. |
Expiry date An offer can end on a stated date or be withdrawn earlier. |
For the current Yomojo Starter port-in promotion, activation is required within 45 days, auto-renewal is required and the standard price applies from Month 7. The listed offer end date is 30 September 2026.
Bottom line
A switching deal can be a good way to save, but the first-month price is only part of the picture.
Before changing providers, compare the total cost, ongoing price, renewal period, data allowance, network coverage and eligibility rules. If you are keeping your number, make sure your current service stays active until the port is complete.
For Yomojo's current Starter offer, eligible customers can get their first 30 days for $1, followed by 50% off Months 2 to 6. The standard $24.90 price applies from Month 7, with 30-day renewals.
Whichever deal you choose, check the latest offer terms and CIS before signing up. A few minutes of checking can help you choose a plan that still works for you after the promotional period ends.
