Important Update: Optus 3G Network Shutdown
Yomojo is working closely with Optus to improve network performance by repurposing the 3G spectrum to strengthen 4G coverage and accelerate 5G expansion.
As part of this upgrade, the Optus 3G network will be permanently shut down from September 2024.
What Is Changing?
From September 2024, Optus will re-farm the 900MHz spectrum currently used for 3G services. Once this process is complete:
3G services will no longer be available.
Devices that rely on 3G connectivity will stop functioning.
Emergency calls may not work on affected devices.
This upgrade allows improved 4G reliability and faster 5G rollout.
Who Will Be Affected?
You may be impacted if:
You use a 3G-only device.
Your device does not support LTE Band 28 (700 MHz).
Your device does not support Voice over LTE (VoLTE).
You are located in areas where 3G is currently the primary coverage layer.
If you use a compatible 4G or 5G device with VoLTE enabled, your service will continue as normal.
How to Check If Your Device Is Compatible
Your device must support:
4G 700 MHz (LTE Band 28)
Voice over LTE (VoLTE)
You can check your device specifications via the manufacturer’s website or by contacting customer support.
Devices Identified as Potentially Impacted
Based on our records, the following devices may not be compatible:
Mobile Phones
ASPERA Digicel Max – No VoLTE support
Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900i) – No VoLTE support
Apple iPhone SE (A2275) – No LTE 700MHz support
Apple iPhone 11 (A2111) – No LTE 700MHz support
Oppo F5 Youth – No VoLTE support
Samsung Galaxy J1 mini (SM-J105Y) – No VoLTE support
Data-Only Devices
Telit HE910-D – 3G-only device
Alcatel One Touch L100B – No LTE 700MHz support
HUAWEI Gobi3000 Module – 3G-only device
Apple iPad Air (A1475) – No LTE 700MHz support
Note: Other devices not listed may also be affected.
Emergency Calls (Triple Zero – 000)
Important:
From June 2024, if you are in an area without 3G coverage, emergency calls may not work on affected devices.
From September 2024, devices that rely on 3G will not be able to make calls, including Triple Zero (000).
Do not call Triple Zero (000) to test your device unless it is a genuine emergency.
To maintain emergency access, upgrade to a compatible 4G/5G device with VoLTE support.
What Should I Do?
We will contact customers identified as potentially impacted.
If you receive communication from us, we strongly recommend upgrading your device before September 2024.
If you do not receive a notification, your service is likely unaffected.
Will I Need a New SIM Card?
Most modern 4G/5G devices use nano SIM cards. Yomojo SIM cards are triple-cut to support all sizes.
If you have an older SIM card, you can order a replacement via:
Your Yomojo Dashboard ("Get a SIM")
Customer Support
Medical, Security, & M2M Devices
If you use:
A personal medical alarm
A security system
An embedded or machine-to-machine (M2M) device
Any IoT device relying on 3G
You must contact the device manufacturer immediately to confirm 4G 700MHz compatibility.
Devices operating solely on 3G will stop functioning from September 2024.
