Slow Internet on 4G/5G Home Wireless
If your Home Wireless internet is slower than expected, try the following steps:
1. Check Network Status
Ensure there are no network outages in your area.
Visit Yomojo’s coverage map to confirm 4G/5G availability at your location.
If you are in a low-coverage area, the device may default to a weaker signal.
2. Move to a Better Location
Obstacles such as walls, floors, furniture or electronic appliances can weaken signal strength.
Place your device in a higher position or near a window facing the nearest mobile tower for better reception.
Tip: Avoid placing the modem in corners, cupboards, or behind metal objects.
3. Restart Your Modem and Connected Devices
Power off your Home Wireless modem for 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
Restart laptops, phones or tablets connected to the modem to refresh the network connection.
Tip: Regularly restarting the modem once a week can improve performance and maintain stable speeds.
4. Reduce Network Congestion
Too many devices connected simultaneously can slow down your internet.
Disconnect devices not in use, particularly those streaming video or downloading large files.
Tip: In households with multiple users, consider scheduling high-data activities (such as streaming or downloads) during off-peak times.
5. Check Device Software and Firmware Updates
Ensure your Home Wireless modem and connected devices have the latest software or firmware updates installed.
Updates can improve speed, stability and overall network performance.
Tip: Enable automatic updates where possible to keep your devices optimised.
6. Clear Browser or App Cache
Slow speeds can sometimes be caused by accumulated cached data in apps or browsers.
Clearing cache can improve loading times and reduce perceived slowness.
Tip: Regularly clear cache for frequently used apps such as streaming services or browsers to help maintain speed.
7. Test with a Wired Connection (Optional)
Connect a device to the modem via an Ethernet cable to test internet speeds.
If speeds are faster over a wired connection, the issue may be with Wi-Fi coverage rather than the network itself.
Tip: Use this method to identify Wi-Fi dead zones in your home.
8. Check Signal Strength on Your Modem
Most modems display signal bars or indicators.
If signal strength is low (1–2 bars), try relocating the device or using a 4G/5G signal booster.
Tip: Avoid placing the modem on the floor or behind thick walls; even small adjustments can improve reception.
9. Optimise Wi-Fi Settings
If your Home Wireless device also provides Wi-Fi, ensure the Wi-Fi band is optimised:
2.4 GHz band: Longer range but slower speeds.
5 GHz band: Faster speeds but shorter range.
Tip: For high-speed activities close to the modem, use the 5 GHz band; for rooms further away, 2.4 GHz may be more stable.
10. Consider Your Data Plan and Usage
Heavy usage, such as streaming, downloads or online gaming, can temporarily slow your connection.
Tip: Monitor your data usage in the Yomojo app and consider upgrading your plan depending on your usage to maintain optimal speeds.

💡 Extra Tips:
Avoid placing the modem near microwaves, cordless phones, or large metal objects.
Consider using a 4G/5G Wi-Fi extender or mesh network to improve coverage in larger homes.
For gaming or video streaming, connect directly via Ethernet where possible for the most stable connection.
Occasionally check the Yomojo coverage map to ensure your area has optimal 4G/5G service.
